Tearmond (/tearmond/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Flowerton Dutchy, Ruwia County, within the Kingdom of Helsteria.

The name Tearmond is derived from the Sylvin language, as Tearmond was founded by Lemtodea Mather, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

Tearmond has a yearly average temperature of 21°C (69°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a pleasant 25°C (77°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cool 18°C (64°F). Tearmond receives an average of 195 cm/y (76 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of rain during the fall. Tearmond covers an area of nearly 5 km2 (2 mi2), and an average elevation of 3656 m (11994 ft) above sea level.

Overview

Tearmond was founded durring the late 14th century in winter of the year 1353, by Lemtodea Mather. The establishment of Tearmond was plagued by a lack of willing colonists. After attempts to pay people to resettle failed Lemtodea Mather struck deals with nearby nations and communities to establish Tearmond as a prison colony.

Tearmond was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the late 14th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and Tearmond is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature masoned stone construction which prominantly features pointed arches, pointed ribbed vault cielings, flying buttress', and window tracery all of which share a simmilar gemoetetic patern halfway between organic and inorganic in design formaing a very distinct aesthetically integrated style. BUildings tend to reach for the havens, and more expencive homes are easily identified by their floor count as well as the addition of decorative features intigrated into the building's design such as statues, gargoyals, and embelished joinery.

Tearmond is buildings are located arround a single restrictive baked earthen mainstreet which forms a clockwise spiral to give the town a over all circular shape. The town sits comfortably behind a palisade wall complete with a timber gatehouse and battlments. The timber-based walls has suffered a visible ammount of structural damage, leaving them effectivly useless. One can't help but wonder why the has not yet effected repairs.

A look around Tearmond makes it abundantly clear the town suffered something horrible some time ago. It’s a quiet town filled with closed scriptoriums, people quietly yet dejectedly reading in isolated places around town, and the occasional book laying in a heap of garbage.

Civic Infrastructure

Tearmond has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within Tearmond.

Tearmond has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

Tearmond has a Department of Firefighters, which is responsible for organizing fire fighting efforts during a fire and enforcing local ordinances relating to fire safety.

Tearmond has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Tearmond has a Hall of Slayers, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

Tearmond has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain Tearmond's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

Tearmond possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. Tearmond's grid is powered by a boiler and turbine based power plant.

Tearmond's old civil lighting system was converted to Galvanic Lamps recently, and expanded to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

Tearmond has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands.

Tearmond has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

Cultural Notes

A substantial minority of the locals are descended from foreigners alien to their local neighbors. They may have been religious exiles, economic migrants, indigenous locals surrounded by the existing polity, or a foreign settlement conquered within the relatively recent past. The locals may not be enthusiastic about being ruled by others not of their kind, and their neighbors may look askance at the way foreign customs or even laws may be maintained.

Tearmond's town hall was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is best known for its functional shapes, abstract shapes used sparingly for decor, simple color schemes, holistic design, and basic industrial materials. Its simple designs were created to be beautiful, functional, and mass-producible. The style used little to no embellishment or ornamentation, instead drawing attention to the streamlined design, such as flat roofs to create a simple, geometric look. The simplicity masks the style's nearly sinister functionality, as every last feature is designed to guide the people living in the building in how to make the most efficient use of the structure.

Due to the actions of local Kami, spring is long in Tearmond.

The Mud Elemental, Large near Tearmond are known to be almost tame, such that they can be put to domestic use.

Tearmond's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves consuming a local narcotic to channel Conjuration energies of tier 2 via mimery.

Economy

History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the late 2nd century the Livermer Heath was struck by a drought when Tarn Rila grew too small to continue feeding Brook Talora, which reduced the available water supply nationwide, but was especially harsh in the area arround Tearmond. As the neighboring regions had no water so spare, Tearmond lost 118 people, and 373 livestock in the disaster.. The drought lasted for 5 weeks, which are remembered as the Loss Thirst.
